About ChemistryRhymes

The goal of this website is to have some fun with chemistry and learn about the elements of the periodic table at the same time. When you click on an element, you will find a verse or song about the element, based on a common nursery rhyme or song. Each verse is illustrated, and you can listen to the rhyme being sung or read. Explanations of the chemical principles used in each verse are explained by clicking on the link below the verse called “learn more about…” If you need a refresher on the nursery rhymes that are used, just click on the name of the nursery rhyme or song.

About Alice

Alice Baxter taught high school chemistry for 37 years, most of that time at Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor Connecticut. She taught all levels of chemistry, including Advanced Placement chemistry, as well as other science classes such as Astronomy. She earned a BS from Stony Brook University in New York and a PhD in the history of science from Yale University in New Haven. Alice has also written a children’s book about chemistry called Adam’s Atomic Adventures, which tells the story of a young boy who travels inside the periodic table to rescue an atom of oxygen.

 

About Ken

Ken Fredette creates the webcomic “Ken Frets”, drawing inspiration from his love of music, science, and food. Ken is a member of the Nutmeg Collective of crafters. Ken and his fiance enjoy exploring New England towns to find new art galleries, restaurants, and concert venues.

About the performers

The songs are performed by Susan Chrzanowski, who teaches music at the Loomis Chaffee School.

The verses are read by John Ratte, former headmaster of the Loomis Chaffee School.
