Hydrogen
Little miss hydrogen
Sat on an ottoman
Crying and sighing all day.
Along came a neutron
Who said “How do you do, hon,
And why are you so sad today?”
“Alas,” she replied,
“I’ve nothing inside
But one lonely proton, that’s all.
With nary a neutron,
To balance my proton,
Among elements I’m the oddball.”
Neutron said, “Don’t be glum
We’ll make deuterium,
With a new mass of two and not one.”
So they joined without fuss
Into one nucleus,
And made an isotope fit for the sun.
