Boron and Beryllium
Resolved to have a battle,
For Boron said Beryllium
Was just a useless metal.

“But I,” said Boron, “can make soap,
And when the need arises,
The boric acid that I form
Both cleans and sanitizes.”

“Oh Boron,” said Beryllium,
“At least I know I’m able
To find my proper place upon
The periodic table.

Remember that the table sorts
The elements quite neatly.
Metals left, non-metals right,
The rule applies completely.

But Boron, as a metalloid,
Where will you cast your lot?
Unlike me, you don’t know if
You’re metal or you’re not.”
